Small Business Hiring
When I've seen small business owners hire - the first thing they do is reach out to their network....great option, but consider what your network looks like? Did everyone work in the same industry or go to the same college? Companies that have all of their team come from a similar background and have similar perspectives are really missing out. When you are ready to bring someone on it's usually because you are at a point of feeling overwhelmed already. Here are some ways for small business owners to expand their team strategically and quickly:
-Start with a list of tasks you need help with and a rough idea of how much time you'll need someone for. Part time, full time, contractor?
-Utilize a service like Loom to record some tutorial training videos next time you do that task yourself.
-At the same time you can start your outreach. Is your network already a pretty good mix of professionals? Or are we all looking and thinking the same?
-Share the opportunity in various niche LinkedIn and Facebook groups. There are LOTS of community groups out there. You can advertise the opportunity the way you already connect with your community - maybe via your newsletter, social media or LinkedIn. Instagram for business connection can be a smart option to explore.
-Once you have found a good match for your team make sure you have a few operational tools for organization to make onboarding smooth.
*Bonus tip, the inclusion doesn't stop there. You look around and are surround by a killer diverse team elevating your business. Are you paying your team equally and fairly? Does everyone have the same opportunity to share their ideas and be valued?
Small business owners have the opportunity to be very intentional about the company culture they create and emulate what they stand for. When you are genuine and intentional about hiring your team the results speak for themselves. Need help getting organized to facilitate all this?
